January 2013

I think most people would agree that January is kind of a drag.  Let down from the holidays.  Sugar detox.  Freezing - and I mean FREEZING (like we haven't seen much above 12 degrees in the last 2 weeks).  The flu all around.  The kind where Van has is for a whole week before Em gets it.  So we're basically home for 2 weeks.  Poor kids.  When they were feeling okay they were so stir crazy I thought Van was going to explode.  Everyone is better now though and our immune systems are better for it!!  :)  It is kind of painful how SLOW time has been crawling by though.  I'm a little anxious for a certain house to be done in February!!  SPEED UP, TIME!!!

He started on the couch and basically worked his way down, never really waking up.  He took 3 naps that day.  That's a big deal for Van.  He has to be pretty sick to even take 1.

What happened one day when we tried to go to the library.  That's a huge kid in a little stroller.

We did have a blast building a train out of cardboard boxes, though!

Kept Van happy all day!

Izzy and Diesel

Van needed to sit on my lap at gymnastics, too.  :)

And this baby.  Oh, this baby.  She's so sweet.  She just snuggled me and hummed on my shoulder for 5 minutes before I laid her down to sleep.  She does get called a boy a lot though.  I need to keep a bow on her at all times.  She has 1 tooth part way in and the 2nd just broke through.  She's always happy.  Even smiles at strangers.  She's even liking food more!!  Hooray! I won't be nursing her until she's 4, afterall.  Though don't temp me with this one - I might.  Can't believe we're down to 5ish months.  So sad.  :(

Girls Night in SLC

For Christmas, Aaron gave me a Girls Night in SLC with my besties (minus Magg - why is NC so far away?).  I know - best husband ever, right?  It was so fun to get together with my girls and just eat and talk and laugh and shop (I had an H&M gift card that was burning a hole in my pocket and dragged everyone there with me - where 3 of the 4 of us bought matching $6 skirts.  Cute!).  And sit in the hot tub for 2 hours.  And not hear any crying babies in the night (just me having an hour long cough attack.  Sorry girls!).  I have the best girl friends.  Love you girls!

Holy snow storm on the way up!!  In front of the Thai restaurant where we ate.
REAL Belgian waffles at Brugge.  Seriously people.  Eat. One. Now. RUN.

Lacee: "Don't take a picture at that angle!"
Me: "My bangs look retarded - why are we laying down?"

Oh well.
Where is Lu in all of my pictures??  (Gone to work already in this one.)

Shoppy, shoppy.  A nice man from Turkey and his mafia-like possy took this picture of us.  And one with their phone too.  Awkward.  :)
Cute Van helped Dad build shelves for Grandma while I was gone.  Cute little helper.

Happy 30th Birthday Aaron!

My hubby turned 30 at the beginning of the month!!  Wow!!  He was only 22 when I married him.  Where does the time go?  Everyone was a little under the weather, but Aaron did enjoy his annual Apple Pie (the BEST apple pie), a Thai food extravaganza by yours truly, some business books from wife and coupon book (i.e. Free Shave from Van, free foot rub from Emery, etc.), lots of pictures the kids drew, a bag of 30 things they love about Dad and a huge Igloo drink cooler from the kids.  So appropriate for our resident water Nazi.  Not sure how we've gone this long without one (wait, yes I do... by bringing 72 water bottles everywhere we go!)!

I wrote him 30 things I love about him, but as to not die of mushiness, I'll share just my favorite.  The thing I love most about Aaron this year is that his favorite place to be is with us.  Not with friends, not at work, not climbing - with us.  It feels so good to be loved and we always know he loves us.  We are his most important assets.

How Van celebrated Dad's birthday - staying home from church and reading stories with Grandpa and snuggling with Grandma, who also got sick.  Poor little sickie.

My snuggly boys.
Boys are the best snugglers.  We need at least 1 more boy at our house.

The girls were feeling okay!!

Happy New Year!!

New Year's Day was a frigid 16 degrees - so we went sledding!!  :)  It's actually one of the nicest days we've had in weeks so it's a good thing we did.  And then of course we followed that up with a trip to The Quarry.  Fun, fun, fun!!

Cute Grandmama holding sleeping Diesel and sleeping Izzy.

Apparently I need to wear braids under my snow hat.  I look like a boy.

Most of our little crew.  Minus dad and Aaron.

Cute Van enjoying his Lipton noodle soup to warm up.

Family New Years Letter

In case I don't have your updated emails... here's our 2013 Family New Years Letter! (and email me your email address if I don't have you on my list and you want to be!)

Dear Family and Friends,

Happy New Year!  We had a wonderful 2012 and just wanted to share it with all of you!

We started off the year in Las Vegas with Aaron working at Deloitte.  About halfway through the year we became a family of 5 with the addition of Izzy Jean.  Then we picked up and moved back to Utah – sad to leave family and friends in Las Vegas, but thrilled to be starting our adventure as small business owners. Aaron is buying his father’s business!  We were blessed to be able to squeeze in my best friends’ wedding, 2 family reunions, 2 Zion trips, beach trips, camping, biking and climbing in this busy year as well as lots of time with both families during the holidays!  What a crazy year!

Aaron –  Aaron will turn 30 this week and despite the initial disappointment of with living with his parents when he turned 30, has redeemed himself by buying us our dream home.  We are hoping to be in by the 1st of March and can’t wait to put down permanent roots.  Networking up a storm and establishing business systems are keeping him busy in his new chosen career and he is loving it (look no further for all of your trophy, award, plaque, t-shirt and promotional product needs)!  He spends lots of time being super dad and telling the world’s best bed time stories, dreaming of road biking in our new city and loving that we can rock climb at the gym again.  Highlights of his year were buying his wife a road bike, watching me cry when he gave me an address stamp for my birthday (with our new home address on it) and completing a century ride (100+ miles on a bike) in the freezing cold and rain.

Britt – 2012 was a year of blissful baby blur!  I spent the 1st half pregnant and the 2nd half ogling over the most adorably happy baby who ever lived (who started out as a good sleeper, but has turned out not to be! – hence the “blur”).  I have enjoyed having Emery as a preschooler and watching her learn and be the social butterfly she is, and using that time without her to do mommy school with Van – letter ice cream, mini volcanoes – you name it, we do it!  I still love cooking, working out and reading and do lots of the first two.  Highlights of my year included a natural delivery with baby #3 (with Aaron as a professional-quality yoga/labor coach), watching Aaron transition into a job he LOVES, hiking the Y with the 3 kids and witnessing Emery and Van transition from just siblings into best friends.

Emery (5) – Our grown up girl had done great with lots of big transitions this year!  Leaving her home and a very special best friend was tough, but she’s truly risen to the occasion, starting pre-school with no friends in a new place and then getting to know her whole class in true Emery style.  She’s brought the full course of female emotions to our family, but we love the sensitivity and caring that comes with it.  Ultra-patient with her crazy little brother and super helpful with her baby sister, she was recently dubbed “The Toddler Whisperer” by her mom’s friends.  She still loves all things girl, but maybe loves rock climbing most of all (hooray!).  Endlessly imaginative, she spends hours playing with princesses and ponies, taking her brother on pretend adventures and singing songs she makes up at the top of her lungs.  Highlights of her year were starting preschool, a trip with Grandma and Grandpa to see cousin Miles and his new baby sister, taking dance and gymnastics classes and spending her birthday in Las Vegas with her best friend.

Van (3) – Van grew up in 2012 (much to the heart break of his mom)!  He started off the year barely talking and now he’s talking (mostly coherently) in full sentences, cracking us up with utterances like “I want an iPad [for Christmas]” and “I have slugs in my nose”.  His favorite color is red (like a fire truck) and trucks are still his passion.  He is a loving and sweet kid with endless amounts of love for his sisters and his grandmas.  He loves to take care of his “Em” and rubs her head when she’s scared at bedtime and he adores his tiny Izzy.  He still has endless amounts of energy, but as long as we focus it in the right direction he’s a blast!  Highlights of his year were learning to swim without floaties, learning to ride a bike and eating 5 jumbo hot dogs in 1 sitting.

Izzy  (7 months) – This roly poly baby is the joy of our family!  She is happier than a clam, chubbier than a baby hippo and way more lovable than a puppy.  She loves ferociously, literally attacking us all with kisses (including giving her mom hickies on my chin!) and snuggles and eats up the thousands of kisses she gets all day in return.  She loves her brother and sister most of all and will laugh hysterically for them all day.  Upside down and naked are her two favorite states of being.  Mommy’s milk is her one true love – she scoffs at baby food but shows significant interest in cheeseburgers.  Her crooked head and tight neck muscles are just about fixed thanks to some physical therapy and persistence.  Highlights of her year were lots of middle of the night snuggle sessions, learning to sit up and having everyone rush to her crib side with huge smiles when she wakes up.

Happy New Year from our family to yours!

Aaron, Britt, Emery, Van and Izzy

Emery turns 5!!

I have a 5 year old?  How old am I anyway?

This big girl is such a delight to have at our house.  I tell her all the time that I'm so glad she was my 1st baby.  A few of my favorite things about her:
  • She's constantly singing!  She has a beautiful voice and has lots of songs memorized, but I love the ones she makes up too.
  • She's thoughtful.  When Van woke up sick this morning she hurried after breakfast to draw him a picture of a "fire tow truck" to make him feel better.  And it did.  She's always taking care of us and of people she doesn't even know.
  • She's fun - She's always coming up with a scheme to do something fun, go somewhere fun, eat something fun.  She's just a fun girl!!
  • She has a tender heart.  Her favorite movie, Spirit, makes her cry, she cries when relatives leave (Grandma, cousin Missy, Aunt Donna).  She's definitely an emotional girl!
  • Her Daddy says: She gives great head scratches and how she looks at me with loving eyes and says "I love you, Dad."

And what did she want to do for her birthday day?  Go climbing of course.  That's our girl!!
On her birthday morning.  She got a horse stable and sparkly pants from mom and dad, baby horses and a cowgirl for her stable from Ma and Pa Wimmer, and a big horse and Brave book from Ma and Pa Wilkinson.

Love these 3.  Sometimes we sit in the corner and snuggle and watch dad climb.  I love the climbing gym.

Nice tummy dude.

This birthday girl is getting to be quite the little climber

Good climbing Daddy

Her birthday celebration in Las Vegas.  Instead of a party she chose to take Jayne to Bounce U and to lunch with Grandma.  And to get in Pa's hot tub, of course.

Izzy tricks

Silly Girls!  I love these two.  They really are the cutest friends.
